Laya is home to the Layaps, one of Bhutan's most distinctive highland communities, known for their unique cultural traditions and close connection to the natural environment. Their traditional way of life, yak herding, weaving and mountain farming offer fascinating insights into Bhutan's rich cultural heritage.

Guests at Laya Camp can enjoy authentic cultural encounters and participate in activities such as traditional weaving, gathering local ingredients and preparing regional dishes together with members of the community. Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality Training

Developed by Zhiwaling in collaboration with De-suung, the Laya Camp project goes beyond conventional tourism. It also aims to create employment opportunities and provide professional hospitality training for Bhutanese De-suung members.

By combining responsible tourism, cultural exchange and vocational education, the project contributes to sustainable development while creating new opportunities for local communities in one of Bhutan's most remote mountain regions.

A Unique Himalayan Retreat

Laya Camp is an ideal destination for travellers seeking an authentic and extraordinary Bhutan experience. The combination of spectacular alpine scenery, traditional highland culture and comfortable tented accommodation makes it a memorable retreat for nature lovers, adventurers and culturally curious travellers.

A minimum stay of three nights is recommended. The best seasons to visit are April and May, as well as mid-September to early November. October is particularly special, as visitors may have the opportunity to experience the Royal Highland Festival in Laya, celebrating traditional music, local cuisine, highland culture and the unique heritage of the Layap community.
